Yesterday Marriott’s new Bonvoy program launched. While there really aren’t any noteworthy changes to their program with the launch, Marriott has rebranded a new portfolio of credit cards with American Express and Chase.

The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card is offering up to a 100,000 point sign up welcome offer when you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months. That is currently the best offer to accumulate Marriott points but it is not the only offer.

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card by Chase is another new card offering up to a 75,000 point welcome offer. The card is replacing the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Visa Signature card.

Why should you consider the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card over the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card?

Everyone who qualifies for the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express should sign up if you are in the market for a new credit card. It is the largest public offer on the card. Unfortunately, lot’s of people are ineligible for the card and that’s where the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card by Chase comes in.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card by Chase Welcome Offer

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card from Chase is a rebrand from the Marriott Rewards Premium Plus credit card. The offer is still the same from the previous card as you can earn 75,000 points spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. For reference 75,000 points is worth around $525 -$675 depending on how you value Marriott Bonvoy Points. We think they are worth .07-.09 cents apiece.

Eligibility

It is super difficult to understand the terms for this card, as there are 2 factors here. The first is whether you can apply for the card the second is if you are eligible for the bonus offer. Some members may be able to apply for the card and be approved but not receive a bonus, so read carefully into the rules.

Chase has apparently also created a welcome bonus eligibility pop-up that should let you know if you’re able to earn a given offer before you hit apply, although I haven’t tested it myself.

You can’t get this card if any of the following is true:

  • You’re a current card member of the Marriott Bonvoy Premier credit card
  • You’re a current card member of the Marriott Rewards Premier
  • You’re a current card member of the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card
  • You’re a current card member of the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus
  • You’re a previous card member of the Marriott Bonvoy Premier credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
  • You’re a previous card member of the Marriott Rewards Premier credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
  • You’re a previous card member of the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
  • You’re a previous card member of the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.

You can’t earn the new bonus if one (or more) of the following is true:

  • You’re a current card member (or a previous card member within the last 30 days) of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card
  • You’re a current card member (or a previous card member within the last 30 days) of The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express
  • You’re a current or previous cardmember of either the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card or the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express Card, and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months
  • You’re a current or previous cardmember of either The Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express or the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury Card, and received a new cardmember bonus or upgrade bonus in the last 24 months
  • Were approved for the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card or Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card within the last 90 days.
  • Were approved for the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Luxury Card or The Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express within the last 90 days

Essentially, the card member bonus is unavailable if you have held an American Express cobranded Marriott card. The card is not available at all if you still have the Marriott Premier or Premier Plus credit cards or received a sign up bonus in the past 24 months on either of those cards.

As this is a Chase card, the 5/24 rules do apply.

In Conclusion

New Marriott credit card offers are pretty lucrative. Which is why Marriott, Chase, and American Express are making it such a pain to figure out eligibility. Marriott has done a lot to push loyalty away, which makes signing up for one of these cards difficult. At the same time, Marriott works with the most Airline partners of any other program so there is still significant value to be had.
