Qantas orders Airbus A321XLR

Qantas Group has placed an order for the recently launched A321XLR, adding to the customers that have committed to the aircraft over the last two days.

Covering 36 aircraft, the deal has Qantas converting 26 existing A320neo Family orders to the A321XLR plus a new firm order for 10.

Following this update, the Qantas Group A320 Family order sits at 28 x A321 LRs, 36 x A321 XLRs and 45 x A320 NEOs, with continued flexibility around timing and structure in negotiation with Airbus.

“We’ll take a decision closer to the time about which parts of the Group will use these aircraft, but there is plenty of potential across Qantas and Jetstar”

The A321XLR will allow routes such as Cairns-Tokyo or Melbourne-Singapore to be operated using narrow-body aircraft, making them financially attractive.

Launched during the 2019 Paris Airshow, the A321XLR is the next development from the already popular A321neo, boasting a range of 4,700 nautical miles.
