Mileage Deal: 30% Discount on Alaska Miles by 30th June

The Alaska Mileage Plan is running another promotion again, now offering up to 30% discount (instead of bonus) this time round. If booked before the 30th June, you can purchase each mile at 2.07 US cents (better than the 40% bonus miles promotion in March!)

The Alaska Mileage Plan is one of my most favourite frequent flyer program where you can score really good Business/First Class flights when you redeem your tickets with them. In this post, I will be focusing on this promotion and will talk in detail about the Alaska Mileage Plan over the next few days.

A Quick Summary For This Promotion

  • Different people may be offered a different discount rate for this flash sales
  • Purchase at least 20k miles to receive 30% discount
  • 2.07 US cents per mile after discount
  • Purchase limit: up to 150k miles including bonus miles within a year.

Historical Price Offered in the Past Promotions (1 Year Time Frame)

For regular followers, you will probably have noticed that the Alaska Mileage Plan runs regular promotions. The table below shows the price (US cent per mile) over the past one year.

If you have travel plans in mind and urgently need Alaska Miles to book your flights, this is not a bad deal. However, if you are a medium-high risk taker, you could perhaps wait for another 50% bonus promotion in the next coming months.

Why Alaska Mileage Plan is my favourite Frequent Flyer Program

  • Free stopovers for one-way or return tickets
  • Redemption on unique airlines. Examples:
  • Aer Lingus, Fiji Airways, Icelander Air
  • Great redemption rates on first and business class. Examples:
    • Cathay Pacific first class from US to Asia for 70k miles one way
    • Hainan/Cathay Pacific business class from US to Asia for 50k miles one way
    • Qantas business class from US to Australia for 55 k miles one ways

Conclusion

The promotion this time round seems stuck in the middle. 2.07 US cents per mile is not the cheapest or the highest rate, if we look at the 1 year historical trend. Nevertheless, you could purchase a reasonable amount of miles (but not stocking up) if you have some travel plans in mind.
