Emirates Reveals an Updated Livery – What’s New?

Emirates has unveiled an updated livery, the 3rd of its official aircraft brand colors to include a new tail design, wingtips and bolder lettering.

In this new livery, the tailfin and wingtips have been updated, with the UAE flag on the tailfin featuring dynamic, flowing 3D artwork, and the wingtips painted in red with the Emirates logo in Arabic calligraphy, popping out in reverse white.

Passengers with a window view will also see the UAE flag colours painted on the wingtips facing the fuselage. Even though the tail features the Emirati flag just like before, the new design seems to give it a more dynamic and fluttering appearance.

Moreover, the gold “Emirates” lettering on the main body has been made bolder and 32.5% larger, and the iconic red branding on the aircraft belly has been retained, which was introduced in 2005. However, the “emirates.com” website URL has been dropped from the current design.

“Aircraft livery is the most instantly recognisable brand real estate for any airline. It’s a visual representation of our unique identity, something we wear proudly, and display in all the cities we fly to around the world. We’re refreshing our livery to keep it modern, without losing the key elements of our identity such as the UAE flag on our tailfin and the Arabic calligraphy.”

First Aircraft to Feature the New Livery

The first aircraft to sport the new livery is the Airbus A380 with the registration A6-EOE, which has just undergone a makeover at Emirates Engineering. It is scheduled to fly to Munich on March 17 as flight EK51.

Earlier yesterday, footage surfaced on Twitter showcasing one of the airline’s A380s with a different livery design, with changes primarily relating to the tail and sharklets of the aircraft.

Before its current livery, A6-EOE featured a special design to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UAE, called the Year of the Fiftieth, which was in place from October 2021. Prior to that, from December 2018 to October 2021, the A380 featured a unique livery to promote Expo 2020, held in Dubai, UAE from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.

This livery refresh marks the third iteration of Emirates’ official aircraft brand colours, with the first livery unveiled in 1985 and refreshed 14 years later with the delivery of the first Boeing 777-300 at the 1999 Dubai Airshow.

According to the Dubai-based carrier, this new livery will be gradually applied across the rest of the fleet with 24 aircraft, including 17 Boeing 777s, expected to sport the refreshed livery by the end of 2023. All new Emirates aircraft, starting with the first Airbus A350 entering the fleet in August 2024, will also be delivered in this new livery.
