North Pole Sightseeing Flight 2019

North Pole Sightseeing Flight By Air Berlin A330

Welcome

The Arctic and the North Pole itself are one of the most remote and undiscovered regions on earth. It was under enormous stresses and strains that discoverers from all parts of the planet tried to withstand the harsh climate up here and reach the Pole – often with dramatic consequences. It was not only the climatic conditions but also the geographic location, 90° north, that helped create a myth that challenges explorers until today. Edwin Peary and Matthew Henson were the first to set foot on the world´s most northerly point in April 1909, less than 100 years ago.

However today we make reach to North Pole in much faster and comfortable ways, by Air Berlin A330-200 from Berlin Tegel. The special charter flight will take us to North Pole and return to Berlin in just 12 hours! The special chartered “Polarflug” is organised by Air Events and I am honoured to be part of the special voyage.

Flight AB1111
Date: 27 April 2013
Reg: D-ALPI
A/C: A330-200
Flight time: 11h55mins
Passenger: 262

Our flight takes off from Berlin Tegel, heading North for Norway, then Spitzbergen, continue North to reach Geographical 90 degrees North, followed by 2 circles over the North pole across all 24 hour timezones! Later, we head SW direction over Greenland, and continue SW towards Iceland and back to Berlin.

There are a series of highlights on this special flight. In an unusal fashion, I have documented this trip report in a video Trip Report format on YouTube. You can enjoy the sights and sounds with motion to appreciate further the beauty of the Arctic.
