This is a picture trip report of my recent Alitalia flight from Tokyo to Rome in their Business Class “Magnifica” on B777-200/ER.

Class Magnifica (Business Class)
1-2-1 seating with direct aisle access. It is the same seat as Etihad business class but Alitalia have a distinct color and use Poltrona Frau leather. The business class is separated into 2 cabin, one in forward and one just behind door 2. I recommend window seat as it has more privacy for single traveler.



Classica Plus (Premium Economy)
Alitalia B777-200/ER have 3 rows of premium economy seat (fixed back shell) in 2-4-2 configuration.


Economy Class
Alitalia B777-200/ER economy class have 3-4-3 10 abreast standard seating.



On-board Amenities
Alitalia use Salvatore Ferragamo, a well know Italian brand for comfort kit in Business Class.

There are 3 set of menus, food, wine and coffee (by Lavazza)

My flight AZ785 from Tokyo Narita to Rome took 12 hours 20 minutes, flying North across Russia Siberia at 73 degrees North in latitude then southwest towards Belarus, Poland, Austria and across Adriatic sea into Italian airspace.


Food and Beverage
Dining is a highlight on-board Alitalia especially if you love Italian food. I started with a glass of Aperol and nibbles. The starter was prosciutto di parma, followed by second course rice timbale or pasta pomodoro.


The main course I have a choice between chicken supreme or fish which i chose the latter. This is followed by cheese plate and desserts.
Alitalia adopted anytime dining on demand policy so you will never missed out the food!

New Uniform
Alitalia have changed to a new uniform since mid November and I have the chance to try on (one flight attendant kindly let me try out his jacket and using his tie)

Conclusion
My Alitalia flight from Tokyo was a total pleasure with amazing Italian cuisine and beverage. The flight and service resemble strong Italian culture. It is good to see Alitalia offer such a solid product.

Thanks for sharing this experience, I must admit I am very impressed with AZ and its service levels on-board. The crew have always been great on my flights and the food choices compared to other airlines is amazing as you can see from your experience. I will always choose Alitalia if I can when flying to Italy.
I took a short flight from Rome to Barcelona just a month ago. My first on Alitalia and probably my last in the foreseeable future. The flight attendant was rude, loud and bore the look of anger. But she was nice and chatty to Italian speaking passengers. I don’t think I would fly on this airline again, not even on business, as long as I can avoid it. Italy is a beautiful place and the Italians that we had met were warm and welcoming. It is a pity that the airline crew does not provide the same experience.

Great report, Sam. I have read a few reports about Alitalia and it looks like experiences flying them can be mixed, but it looks like you had a really good one! The food looks good! I like the new uniform – very cool!
Thanks for your feedback. I would focus on their product, as you have mentioned the service experience varies due to subjectivity. If the price and schedule is right, why not give it a try?

I am really happy to see your Alitalia video and to know you are in my country. Alitalia is the foundamental gateway for people who come from all over the world. If you will leave Italy from Milan MXP, visit Volandia, a beautiful flight museum close to the airport.
Alitalia, the most money burning national airline ever seen, still flying with a loss of 100 millions eur a month paid by Italians and won’t let bankruptcy stop it from rolling out chic new uniforms for still burning 6 millions eur !!!!
What a government joking with our own money.
Returning to yr experience maybe be Sam Chui helped a lot on treatment, on same flight from Fco to Narita in Magnifica they served a rushed lunch with no any smile, and looking at people as we were a matter being there than paid customers to just disappear until second service to sleep and chatting loudly by galley as Mike confirmed.
Shame to be represented by such inconsistency Airline and crew members.
Have flown alitalia several times and my experiences are very different. Food served and the the FAs disappeared. But I could here them talking loudly in the galley. You got the Sam chui effect
