The aircraft, registered AP-BHP, was performing flight PK605 from Islamabad.

All passengers and crew of flight PK-605 remained safe. CEO PIA Arshad Malik has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

PIA flight PK-605 arrived in Gilgit from Islamabad with 48 passengers on board, all of whom remained unhurt in the incident.

“The ATR-42 aircraft skidded a little off an unpaved patch. The pilots exhibited great skill and composure to regain control and ensure everyone’s safety,”

Said a spokesperson for the national flag carrier. The PIA official said both pilots have been grounded until the investigation is completed.

The flight from Islamabad to Gilgit is very challenging and requires precision and technique. I have flown the same PIA ATR 42 (AP-BHP) in December 2012 to Gilgit. The runway became visible only at the last turn, due to some morning fog. It was one of the most spectacular and challenging landings for any pilot.

  1. I’ve flown many, many, many miles…but I’m genuinely afraid of those ATR’s… Anemic wing design, ancient anti-icing abilities, and difficult to maneuver… and if mistakes are made, they drop like a rock. No thanks guys! Give me an equivalent Saab model any day!

  2. Idiot Gary yet again here..
    I am quite sure he will be coming with a post bashing the airline… he doesn’t have anything else to blog about..
    @Sam awesome video..
