China Airlines (the largest airline in Taiwan) is now offering great Premium Economy Class fares for travel between Australia to Vancouver. From AUD $1,714 onward, you will be flying on their latest A350 product on all sectors. Other competitors are offering their Premium Economy Class fare at over AUD $3000 onward for the same travel period.

This is of super limited value, primarily of its off route stop at Taipei. 22 hours in premium economy doesn’t necessarily beat 14 in regular economy.
I agree with your point. However, putting in a different perspective, a long transfer hours give you the opportunity to get out of the airport and do a Taipei tour before catching the next flight. Taipei has alot to offer. Its probably 1 hrs to reach the main city by public transport. If you are miles chaser, this ticket should be able to give you pretty substantial miles.
