Back in September 2019, Cathay Pacific announced that they would be terminating their New York – Vancouver service on 28th March 2020. However, amidst the strong headwind due to Conronvirus and prolonged Hong Kong protest, Cathay Pacific has just brought forward the date to 18th February 2020.
This service has been around for 24 years (since 1996). At present, the flight is operated by the Boeing 777-300ER with 4 cabin class configuration.

If you would like to have a final taste of this flight between Vancouver to New York in Business and First Class, tickets are still on sale. However, a round trip Business Class ticket is already costing around $5k. It does not make a lot of sense to pay $5k when the round trip flight trip is only about 10-12 hours.
However, there is a way to go around this. Here are some suggestions:
1) Using 25k Alaska miles or 35k Alaska miles to redeem one way Cathay Pacific Business and First Class respectively.
Alaska is now selling its miles at a 40% bonus (2.15 US cent each). Thus, each way will cost you $537 in Business Class and $752 in First Class. Click here to buy Alaska miles.
2) Using 38750 British Airways Avios or 51500 British Airways Avios to redeem one way Cathay Pacific Business and First Class respectively.
British Airways was selling its Avios at a 30% bonus (1.48 US cent each). One way would have cost you $573 in Business Class and $763 in First Class.
3) Using 32.5k American Airlines miles or 50k American Airlines miles to redeem one way Cathay Pacific Business and First Class respectively.
American Airlines is now selling its miles at a 80% bonus (1.78 US cent each). Thus, each way will cost you $578 in Business Class and $890 in First Class. Click here to buy American Airlines miles.
At the point of writing, there is still some availability in both First and Business Class. Hurry up if you want to be on this flight before they finally shut it down.
