Tibet Airlines A319 Caught Fire During Take Off in China

On Thursday the 12th of May, a Tibet Airlines Airbus A319 caught fire and burst into flames after a catastrophic runway excursion at China’s Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.

The Airbus A319 with registration B-6435 was about to depart as flight TV9833 for Nyingchi in Tibet when it suffered a runway excursion and burst into flames on Thursday morning.

Video footage shared on the internet showed flames and thick black smoke out of the fuselage.

All 113 passengers and nine crew members on board evacuated the aircraft via an evacuation slide and were taken to the terminal. Out of 133, more than 40 passengers were taken to hospital with mild injuries.

CCTV said the fire had been extinguished. The airport officials reportedly said that the fire began on the left side of the aircraft, towards its nose. The runway was temporarily closed after the incident and it had resumed operations by 10:30 am. The incident took place at around 8 am.

  1. Hello,SAM.I like your movie very much. Can you post your video to daocheng yading on bilibili? Many chinese friends and I are looking forward to your video.Thank you!

  2. Such an odd location for a fire of this nature. Wondering if there was an explosive fire in L-Ion components in AV Bay that caused the aborted takeoff and/or off runway excursion? The fire does not seem to be emanating from fuel areas, wing or engines? Not much information and imagery to go on so this is just my first impression and purely hypothesis.
