Summary

Air FranceKLM’s Flying Blue program published the promo awards for October 2023 offering discounted award tickets on select routes where you can save between 25% ~ 50% off awards. For this month’s promotion, there are no Business Class discounts but thankfully, I managed to find some saver awards on select destinations.

Although there are no Business Class promo deals this time, there is a wide availability of saver awards as well as interesting destinations such as Paramaribo and Mauritius that are on sale.

  1. I’m just getting into Flying Blue after the Mileageplus devaluation. I’m running into some difficulties and I’m sure I must be doing something wrong so I figured I’d comment to see if the experts can weigh in. First, when I use the calendar search function by leaving the dates blank, I see plenty of availability one-way at the 15k economy and 55k rate (NYC-PAR or NYC-AMS for example). However, once I try to select one of those dates, the price drastically increases to 140-550k each way. This happens without fail on any day I select. After selecting a date, I then use the day to day slider at the top, and can sometimes actually find one of those 15/55k rates, but its rare. Is this a known issue we just have to deal with or am I doing something wrong? Is there a more reliable way to search the real rate of FB award availability?

I’m flexible on my dates as we usually determine where we’re going and trip duration based on availability of affordable awards rather than the other way around.

    1. Hi Brandon, there are some glitches with Flying Blue webpage when it comes to finding availabilities and booking. The website was broken for years and its only this year, where the airline fixed the page but still it comes with multiple issues.
On top of that the FB awards are dynamic so one day the price skyrocket then next day it returns back to saver pricing. Unfortunately, there is no short cut to find the real rates due to dynamic pricing, it requires some time and research.

  2. La Premiere is not available or upgrade using points. Please look up “Upgrade Conditions” in the fine print below (second bullet point): https://www.flyingblue.us/en/earn-spend/flights/upgrades#:~:text=Upgrades%20to%20La%20Premi%C3%A8re%20(First,made%20after%20the%20initial%20purchase.

    Upgrade conditions
Reward tickets are only eligible for upgrades after check-in opens.
Upgrades to La Première (First class) are only possible for Platinum members with a commercial Business class ticket. Reward tickets are not eligible for upgrades to La Premiere.
XP are gained based on the original cabin booked and not on any cabin upgrades made after the initial purchase.
Upgrades are available on Air France and KLM flights and selected partner airlines. All upgrades are subject to availability.
