AAdvantage after devaluation
Follow the devaulation of American Airlines AAdvantage Miles on 22 March 2016, most of the redemption level in First and Business Class has been adjusted upwards with some increased more than 50% or more!
As a resident of Middle East, there remains one sweet spot on the new adjusted award chart.
i.e. From Middle East to Asia Region 1/2 in First Class at 50,000 miles one way (merely up by 5,000 miles)
Given the recent AA Buy miles promotion, miles cost as low as 0.0185 cents USD per miles, a First Class flight from Middle East to Asia could cost just 900 USD + tax one way!
Recently I've ticketed this award from Tokyo to Abu Dhabi. Instead of flying direct on Etihad, I took a scenic milk run: stopping in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Doha.
My ticketed itinerary is:
Tokyo Haneda to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific First Class B747-400
Hong Kong to Bangkok on Cathay Pacific Business Class A330-300
Bangkok to Doha on Qatar Airways First Class A380-800
Doha to Abu Dhabi on Qatar Airways First Class A320
This cost me 50,000 miles plus about 45 USD in tax!
With this itinerary, I can also visit the new Pier First Class lounge in Hong Kong, Thai Airways Royal First Class lounge in Bangkok (use by Qatar Airways) and the amazing Al Safwa First Class lounge in Doha
All of the above for about 945 USD not bad eh?
Of course, there are many other good options using this award.
Etihad is a AAdvantage Partner and they offer 3 class aircraft to Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok and Singapore on daily basis. There are many great combinations and choices.
