Oman Air Business Class Review
Boeing 787 Dreamliner Muscat to Bangkok
Video
Flight WY817
Departure time 20:40
Flight time 5hr40mins
As mentioned in my previous Smart Travel deal, Oman Air has a insane promotional Business Class fare in June. I certainly took advantage of that and flew them from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok via Muscat.
All boarding is via stairs in Muscat International Airport as the current airport do not have airbridges. While this is certainly inconvenient for most passengers, it offer me great opportunity for photo taking before boarding!
The new Muscat International airport should open next year offer improved amenity.

Tonight's flight to Bangkok

Oman Air has 4 Boeing 787 Dremaliners. A4O-SA, A4O-SB, A4O-SY, A4O-SZ in the fleet.
SY and SZ came from Kenya Airways which has different configuration (30J204Y) then SA and SB which has (18J249Y)

Welcome onboard Oman Air
Oh Man! This looks great, it looks brand new!

The middle pair seats.

Direct aisle access from window seat.

My window seat 12A, with direct aisle access.

Before boarding was completed, I asked the flight attendant whether I can see the cockpit. The captain have no problem of that!
Both captain and first officer are proud Omani Nationals.
They informed me due to the light weight, we will climb straight to FL370 as our initial cruising level. That's quick!

Captain Khamis was so nice that he tried to take as many pictures as possible for me.

After a very nice cockpit visit and exchange with the pilots, I went back to my seat.
The flight attendants came from Oman, India, Philippines and Thailand. Unlike other Gulf countries, Oman Air employ a large number of Omani nationals. They're very hospitable, warm and down to the earth.
The usual Arabic coffee and dates was offered.

Followed by giving out amenity kit and menu

After takeoff, I took some more pictures of the cabin. It is about 2/3 full tonight with mostly Omani travelling.

All seats has direct aisle access and good privacy. The window seat are especially private with literally no foot traffic.
The pair seats line up perfectly for travelling couples. The seats on both side are presented in a staggered way.

There is a second remote console controlling the mains screen.
Our flight agenda is showing on the screen.

I started with a glass of Mimosa and canapes.

My first course is poached chicken with Mango salad. It is surprisingly nice. The mango added good sweet flavour with tropical hint. The portion was very generous!

My main course is the Beef Stroganoff topped with sour cream
I haven't had a dish like this in all my previous fight!
The taste is awesome!
It was full of flavour, enhanced by gherkin and the spices.

Some GoPro photo of myself enjoying the flight.

The dessert is a beautifully presented fruit crumble cake.

I order hot tea before going to bed, I was offered a selection of tea.

Time to hit the bed.
You're provided with a pillow and a nice quilt but no mattress or clean sheet to cover the bed.
This is perfectly fine but the standard in Business Class has continue to rise with the competition....
I must say, the bed is really long, probably the longest I've slept on a plane! My toe didn't touch the wall at all!

40 minutes before landing, I was awake and offer to have continental breakfast which i choose just to have some bread and tea.

Landing in Bangkok at 5:41am, about 40 minutes ahead of the schedule.

Conclusion
I was very much looking forward to fly Oman Air Business Class on their Boeing 787 Dreamliner and I have an awesome flight with them. Their product is one of the best in Business Class I have tried! I love the seating arrangement providing good privacy and all aisle access. It is not cramped at all. Good food, good entertainment and nice new planes to fly with.
One great thing about Oman Air is they employed lot of Omani and retain strong local influence, which is well appreciated by its passengers. It isn't a mega carrier but it has a lot of characters. These characters make the airline and its service remarkable.
I really enjoyed my short flight to Bangkok with them and hope to try them again in the near future!
