The Best and Worst Airplane Food

The Best and Worst Airplane Food I’ve Ever Had!

The Best and Worst Airplane Food

Video

Hi guys, I’ve now flown over 1,500 commercial flights and over 3 million miles so say, on average I’ve eaten 1 meal per flight that means I’ve eaten over 1,500 airplane meals in my life. This post shares you some of the BEST and WORST Airplane meals I’ve ever had!

Welcome Drink

I love Champagne and cocktails as my first drink onboard.

Here are some pictures on the Champagne and other interesting welcome drinks airlines offer.

Caviar

I think Caviar should be the standard benchmark for First Class flight. There are still many airlines that serve Caviar on long haul First Class flight such as Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways and even Kuwait Airways! Some other choose to serve a bit fancier Caviar with other starters.

Lobster

Airline like Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines have Lobster Thermidor available to book in advance.

Roast Goose

Lufthansa serves this fine German dish during Christmas times!

Buffet

Airlines such as Iran Air, Air India, PIA, Royal Jordanian and Kuwait Airways serves food on trolley and allow passengers to choose and mix!

International Food

Malaysian Airlines and Singapore Airlines serve Satay as starter!

Korean Air serves Korean Bibimbap!

Thai Airways now serve authentic Samrab Thai food on long haul Premium Class flights.

Japan Airlines serve outstanding Japanese Kaiseki cuisine. The beef they serve simply melts in your mouth!

Cathay Pacific also serve great Japanese cuisine on Japan routes in First Class, along with Chinese Yum Cha (Dim Sum) and Wonton Noodle!

Here are some First Class dining Singapore Airlines offers. You can always choose you favourite dish and “Book the Cook” ahead of time.

Some of the BEST

When it comes to food, France always spring to my mind.

Natually I love what Air France Michelin star chef Joel Robuchon create onboard.

The Confit de Canard dish covered with mash potato may look ordinary but the flavour of the duck simply made me cry. The duck was so tender and full of amazing spices!

Qantas serves find contemporary Australian cuisine. I have a wonderful Sea Bass and Grass fed steak in their First Class.

Etihad have some of the best food presentation I’ve ever seen done by a onboard chef.

Finally, Austrian Airlines have really amazing catering by Do & Co. They also have a fantastic coffee menu!

Dessert

It has to be downright this one, Singapore Airlines served this coconut shell ice cream dessert during the inaugural A380 commercial flight in 2007! It was amazing. Watch the video to see the steam coming out!

Some of the WORST

African Express in-flight meal

African Express in-flight meal

African Express cater their meals from a local village restaurant. It contains this unspecified fish with rice.

Biman Bangladesh serves their infamous Chicken Curry with RC Cola year round on Middle East labor flight. I have to admit the aroma around the cabin isn’t too bad!

Air Koryo, the only 1 star Skytrax Airline serve you a mysterious burger on flights from Pyongyang!

But mind you, Air Koryo’s Business Class food is not shabby, definitely better than most US carriers.

  1. I looked thru your North Korea section for more info on that “mysterious burger” served on Air Koryo but couldn’t find anything. What makes it “ mysterious”?

  2. I agree with the previous comment from Mr.Apu. It is the quality of food relatively speaking, singapore airlines is best atleast from an economic class point of view. service with singapore airlines is legendary. food taste is great again for the economy price paid.

  3. Dear Sam,

I am a fan of your reports and that is one of the main reasons for writing this comment. I really appreciate your video about Biman Bangladesh airlines, but in the worst food section, you wrote ” Biman Bangladesh serves their infamous Chicken Curry with RC Cola year round on Middle East labor flight. I have to admit the aroma around the cabin isn’t too bad!”

I was wondering why you didn’t mention “Economy” class in case of Biman, whereas you are compared with business class cuisine. Have you tried the business class in Biman? The Biman economy airfare isn’t that much, however, we fly FINNAIR economy class without any meals within the EU although the FINNAIR fares are higher than BIMAN. If you fly ECONOMY by FINNAIR from Helsinki to Frankfurt/ London, the flight time is almost same as Dhaka to Bangkok route.

I respect your opinion but would have been pleased if your have given the comparison with Business classes and also the fare differences.

    Thanks a lot.

    Ehsan
