Flying the Ilyushin IL-14!

In August in a unspecified location in Russia, I joined a group of diehard aviation enthusiasts together we flew one of the last remaining airworthy Ilyushin-14 nickname "Penguin"

This particular airframe has been made in 1957 and restored to full airworthy condition with attractive red/silver paint on the fuslarge.

The Cabin and Cockpit

The IL-14 performed a total of 4 flights. An An-2 and Romanian made Aerobatic plane IAR-826 also flew close formation together with the IL-14. Our trip participants swaped planes after each flight so we could have a taste of different planes.

The IL-14 was piloted by Captain Dmitry S who was a master of flying. The IL-14 was able to perform many tight turns, fly pass over the runway and city and many missed approaches + go arounds! You can see these exciting aerobatic on the IL-14 on my video.

As you can see from the set of pictures above, we flew almost wingtip to wingtip during the formation and the photo can be easily taken by mobile phone camera!

We were very lucky with mostly good weather though some late thunderstorm built up. It was an remarkable day to be able to fly in such vintage plane with excellent pilots and airmanship!

Don't miss out the amazing aerobatic and Air 2 Air footage with IL-14 on the video!
