Review: Aloft Dubai South

Aloft Dubai South is the first hotel opened in Dubai South. It is just 2 minutes away, by car, from The Dubai World Central Airport (DWC) Situated in Dubai's Aviation City and just a short spin away from the Expo 2020 site.

I visited the hotel due to its added convenience when travelling in and out of DWC. As some of you may already be aware, Dubai (DXB) is currently undergoing a runway maintenance project; this is taking place on one of their two runways until 31st May 2019. Many airlines such as FlyDubai, Gulf Air, Kuwait Airways, Aeroflot, Nepal Airlines etc have moved some or all of their operations to DWC for business continuity. Therefore, Aloft Dubai South has a unique offering by being the only hotel at Dubai South opening its doors to welcome travellers. I had the pleasure of being one of the first to review the brand new hotel.

The lobby is funky, very consistent with the Aloft branding. However, being next to DWC Airport it has some cool aviation elements added. As an avid Avgeek this is much appreciated. There are lots of coffee table aviation books and even 2 jet engine chairs! There is also a billiard table.

Room

I stayed in room 623, which has an expansive view of the DWC airfield and surroundings. The room itself is new-gen; practical but with everything you need and remains a good size. Kudos to the housekeeping department, the rooms was spotlessly clean. It is always a nice feeling staying at a brand new property. I have also noticed the sound proofing of the hotel is excellent.

I particular enjoyed the views by laying next to the window on the nice leather day bed.

Restaurant

The hotel restaurant offers a buffet breakfast and a la carte starting from 6:30 am. The full buffet cost 80 Dirhams ($22) but if you need to catch a flight earlier than that, you can opt for a takeaway pack starting from just 35 Dhs ($10)

Recreation

There is a temperature controlled swimming pool at the Aloft Dubai South; I must admit, going to the pool always makes me feel more relaxed before or after flight. Given that summer is on the horizon in Dubai, with temperatures bouncing back to nearly 40 degrees Celsius, a pool visit is a must!
