Aegean Miles+Bonus program has launched a new sale for buying miles at 40% bonus through May 27 2019.
Members with at least one credited flight can buy up to 50,000 miles, before any possible bonuses during their membership year or from their last tier upgrade/retain. Those that have no activity can buy maximum of 30,000 miles.
The price of a mile under this offer is €1.79 cents each, when the maximum 40% discount is applied.
Why I Think This is a Good Deal? But Not The Best?
Aegean had a Black Friday 100% bonus miles sale last November in which each mile only cost €1.25 cents. So the current 40% bonus isn't quite the best we've seen.
Aegean is a partner of Star Alliance and you can redeem these purchased miles towards any star alliance partners flight network. They have a pretty simple award chart structure as per below.
(note that the below mile cost is a per round trip basis, for one way it is half that of the round trip cost)
There is some good value due to the simple definition of a region.
For Example:
You can fly from Europe to North America in Business Class for just 45,000 miles one way plus tax. (Buy 45k miles at €1.79 cents per mile, total €806 plus tax)
You can fly from Europe to North America in First Class for just 60,000 miles one way plus tax.
Within Asia it is only 21,000 miles one way plus tax in Business Class. Fly all the way from Beijing to Jakarta (more than 8 hours) for just 21,000 miles in Business Class!

I also quite like the automated search on Aegean, which brings up lot of good combinations without having to call in to redeem miles.
