During the past few years Air France and KLM have had a consistent award promotion published every month, called Flying Blue Promo Rewards. This promotion offers discount award tickets on selected routes.
However, when travelling on those popular routes without promotion, it has been quite difficult to find award tickets with the lowest mileage cost. Now, Air France and KLM have released a good amount of award tickets with the lowest cost from the US to/from Europe.
The Deal
- Route: LAX/ORD/ATL/DFW to/from FCO/BUD/MUC/WAW/etc
- Time: July 2019 – March 2020
- Cost: 53,000 Miles plus taxes/fees
- Class: Business Class
Note that all long-haul award tickets are bookable only between 10 months and 24 hours before departure.
How to Find This Deal?
Air France has a powerful award searching tool on this website that is easy to use. Click here to direct yourself to the website and log into your Flying Blue account.
Select One-way and the destinations, choose a departure date, and total passenger number. Make sure to check “flights around these dates” to get to the award calendar.
Choose a date having the lowest price and continue to the flight selection page, then choose your preferred flights and finish the rest of the booking process.
Note that airport taxes and security charges are not covered by Miles and must be paid separately. The same applies for carrier-imposed surcharges.
What is Air France/KLM’s Business Class Product Like?

How Can I Transfer Miles To Flying Blue?
You can transfer miles from every major flexible credit card currency including American Express Membership Rewards Points, Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, Citi Thank You Rewards Points, and Capital One Miles. Most transfer at a 1:1 ratio. Check with each individual program as some occasionally have bonuses for transferring.
In addition to credit card points, you can also transfer partner hotel miles to Flying Blue; however, I would avoid doing that as the transfer ratios aren’t that great.
AccorHotels | 2,000 Le Club Points* | 1,000 Award Miles |
Hilton Honors | 10 Honors Points* | 1 Award Mile |
World of Hyatt | 1,250 Gold Passport Points** | 500 Award Miles |
IHG Rewards Club | 10,000 Rewards Club Points | 2,000 Award Miles |
Bottom Line
This is a great chance to redeem award tickets if you are travelling between the US and Europe in the next few months on Air France/KLM, however the availability may go away fast. Also make sure to check the latest Flying Blue Promo Rewards to see whether your routes could get a discounted mileage cost.
Are you taking this opportunity to redeem tickets? Are there any other cities or routes currently having a good amount of award availabilities?
