After 56 years since the 1964 Tokyo Olympic, Japan Airlines (JAL) once again will carry the Olympic Torch from Athens to Japan. JAL flight 1964 flew today from Tokyo to Athens to begin the Olympic Torch relay. The flight number marks the last time Tokyo hosted the Olympic summer games.
To spread the excitement for Tokyo 2020 with the people of Japan, The JAL B787-8, registration JA837J, has been painted in a special Olympic Torch livery.
JAL’s relationship with the Olympic Games dates back to the time when the carrier transported the Olympic flame from Athens to Japan, for the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964.
JAL will be working with ANA to transport the Olympic flame throughout Japan, as the Olympic flame will travel through 47 prefectures for 121 days. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are due to be held from the 24th of July until the 9th of August.
To spread the excitement for Tokyo 2020 with the people of Japan, JAL is operating a special livery aircraft bearing the official Tokyo 2020 mascots, Miraitowa and Someity.
