A VietJet Airbus A321 (VN-A657) has suffered a runway excursion upon landing at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International airport.
VietJet flight VJ322 veered off the runway on landing in poor weather conditions. It ploughed through several metres of soft muddy ground before coming to a stop, with the right side of its main undercarriage nearly buried in mud.
VietJet said the aircraft, which was arriving from the tourism island of Phu Quoc, skidded off the runway due to heavy rain and a tailwind.
"The airplane, passengers and crew are all safe," VietJet said in the statement, without saying how many were on-board.
Local media reports said the airport was briefly closed for about 2 hours on Sunday due to the incident.
