Singapore Airlines Opens Restaurant Onboard A380

Singapore Airlines will convert one of their Airbus A380-800s into a restaurant in October. Dubbed “Restaurant A380 @Changi” the unique pop-up experience will also feature a “rare behind-the-scenes look at private access areas”.

Onboard, “passengers” can choose which class of cabin to sit in (presumably for varying prices). Signature SQ dishes, such as Lobster Thermidor and Satay will be served, as well as local Peranakan dishes from acclaimed chef Shermay Lee.

Singapore Airlines Inflight Dining Experience

Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said that the A380 experience stems from customer suggestions and requests.

“With Covid-19 drastically reducing the number of flights operated by the SIA Group, we have created unique activities that would allow us to engage with our fans and customers during this time.”

Restaurant A380 will be open on 24th and 25th October (Sat/Sun) with bookings opening on KrisShop.com from 12th October. KrisFlyer miles can also be redeemed for the experience.

Other Experiences

Throughout late-November, Singapore Airlines will also run tours of their training centre. Highlights will include a tour of an A380 or B777 training simulator and a sneak-peak at new cabin products.

Optional extras include a session in a full-motion flight simulator, cabin crew training workshop and a “Singapore Girl grooming workshop”.

The Singapore Airlines experiences are the result of a market study and a comprehensive review; this survey also considered factors such as the attractiveness of the initiatives to SIA’s customers and members of the public, the environmental implications and their financial viability. An idea for a one-off short tour flight, or a “flight to nowhere”, was also initially considered but not pursued after the review.

For those erring on the side of caution, a similar dining experience is available at home. Singapore Airlines is offering in-home dining experiences, delivered by SQ cabin crew and, if so desired, plated by airline chefs.

For those willing to splurge more, an all-inclusive package comes with a 22-piece SQ tableware set. Additionally, amenity kits and onboard wine can also be purchased.
