British Airways Release New Short-Haul Catering

British Airways has unveiled a new line of short-haul catering, created by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge. The new range, available for purchase in BA’s Euro Traveller (Economy), promises a significant lift in customer experience, after the airline parted ways with Marks & Spencer.

The new range will be rolled out through BA’s Speedbird Cafe; which will now transition solely to a “buy before you fly” model, aimed at reducing food waste. The airline will also continue to offer complimentary refreshments in Euro Traveller on all fights; comprising of a bottle of water and a snack, such as a breakfast bar or crisps. Those wishing to purchase more substantial food options, including Kerridge’s range, will need to pre-order from British Airways’ online duty-free store (up to 12 hours prior to departing the UK, 24 hours prior to return flights back into the UK).

Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ Director of Brand and Customer Experience, said that the airline’s new menu will offer more flexibility and superior food quality.

“Over the last few months we know that our customers have valued the complimentary refreshments offered, so they’re here to stay. But in addition, we also wanted to offer more choice and the ability to buy something more substantial.”

Tom Kerridge’s menu items include:

  • Ham Hock & Smoked Cheddar Sandwich: £4.10 ($5.57)
  • Spiced Cauliflower Tortilla Wrap: £4.20 ($5.71)
  • Chicken & Bacon Baguette: £4.50 ($6.11)
  • Brie Ploughman’s Sandwich: £4.20 ($5.71)
  • Steak & Ale Pie: £4.50 ($6.11)

Elsewhere, the airline will also be moving to the next phase of their on-board catering experience, in Club Europe and on all long haul flights from 20th January, following the temporary introduction of minimum-contact meal boxes. British Airways is continuing to work with caterer Do&Co; to develop new menus in their Club Europe and all other long haul cabins, as well as adapting the meal service to reintroduce china and glassware.

“A sandwich, made with care and great flavours, can be a perfect meal and I hope the passengers enjoy my short haul menu.”
