On 8th September, part of the engine cowling of a Boeing 747 came loose and fell on the roof of a house in Waremme near Liege, Belgium.
The Boeing 747-400F with registration TF-AMC was operating flight CC320, from Liège Airport, Belgium to Malta-Luqa Airport, Malta on behalf of Air Atlanta Icelandic. However, during the climb out shortly after takeoff, the aircraft lost the aft cowl of one of the PW4056 engines.
The engine part fell onto the roof of the garage of a house before it fell into the garden. The aircraft continued its flight to its destination in Malta without further incidents and no one was injured in the incident.
A loud bang woke up the house owners. Initially, they thought the bang could be of a thunderstorm.
“At one point, I heard the sound of an airplane, followed by a boom….So I went out, I looked at the front door, the alarm started ringing because the house still vibrated. I went out behind…I couldn’t see anything. I didn’t sleep all night, I was asking myself a lot of questions.”

“In the morning, it was the neighbour who was looking out of his window who came to ring and said to me: did you see the wreckage in your garden? We stayed speechless. Me in tears, trembling, we wondered what was happening to us. It’s a fright. And the boom, I’ll remember it all my life.”
The pieces that fell in the garden were removed by the local firefighters and were handed over to the airport authorities for investigation.
