Vistara Takes Delivery of Their First Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Indian full-service airline Vistara has taken delivery of their first ever wide-body aircraft, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

The aircraft, registered as VT-TSD, was delivered from Boeing’s Everett factory. The delivery flight took off last Friday morning and arrived in Delhi on Saturday.

Vistara, which is a joint venture between Singapore Airlines and Tata Group also becomes India’s first airline to fly the 787-9. State-owned flag carrier Air India only operates the smaller 787-8 version. Since competitor Jet Airways had ceased operations in April 2019, Air India is currently the only Indian airline offering long-haul flights using wide-body aircraft.

Six Boeing 787s were ordered by Vistara at the Farnborough Airshow in 2018, with options for four additional ones.

The carrier’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has a total of 299 seats, in a three cabin class configuration.

Vistara B787 Business Class

Vistara B787 offers 180 degree flat beds and all direct aisle access Business Class seats. The seat is from the same manufacturer (Stelia) as the Singapore Airlines B787-10 and the Turkish Air B787-9.

Vistara B787 Premium Economy Class

Vistara B787 offers India’s first Premium Economy product, with just 21 Premium seats in between Business and Economy Class.

Economy is in a standard 3-3-3 configuration, across 2 main cabins.

Vistara will operate the Boeing 787 within India for a limited period of time, from March 2020, before deploying it on international long-haul routes. The company has not yet disclosed any planned destinations for the aircraft. So far the airline flies to a handful of international destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai and Colombo.
