WestJet takes delivery of their first Boeing 787 Dreamliner
WestJet has taken delivery of Clive Beddoe, their first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking the start of a new era for the airline.
This aircraft, registered C-GUDH, is the first of ten on order by the airline and will be used to operate existing routes and expand later down the line. Additionally, options for a further ten aircraft are available to the airline once the initial ten are completed by 2021.
Routes for the WestJet Boeing 787-9:
- Daily between Calgary and London (LGW) as of April 28, 2019
- 3x weekly between Calgary and Paris (CDG) as of May 17, 2019, 4x weekly June – August
- 2x weekly between Calgary and Dublin as of June 1, 2019, 3x weekly June – August
In order to familiarize the crew, WestJet will initially operate the Dreamliner on the Toronto – Calgary routes from February 20th.
Ed Sims, President and CEO of WestJet, reflected on the delivery in the following statement:
“Today’s delivery marks a new chapter for WestJet. Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner is one of the most technologically advanced aircraft ever flown and is the perfect platform for our transition to a global network carrier. We look forward to bringing Canadians to the world and the world to Canada in comfort and style.”
Configured with Business, Premium Economy and Economy seating, WestJet’s Dreamliner will total 320 seats and will be powered by two General Electric GEnx engines. The following table breaks down the seating layout:
