Istanbul Ataturk Airport

The last days of Istanbul Ataturk Airport

Turkish plane spotter, Ilgaz Deger, kindly sent in his amazing photos from Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Since the 6th April 2019, most passenger traffic and operations have now moved to the new Istanbul Airport.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport is well known for its amazing plane spotting locations and exotic traffic. It will remain open for cargo and business jet operation.

  1. I hope they will place some good and helpful staff on new airport. Especially the one who will welcome and show positive guesture to help everyone. I traveled two times through turkey and had worse experiences of my life. It was pathetic that people on information desk were not able to speak and understand English properly. And above they didn’t even try to help when I was requesting them to help me, again and again. I was running here and there as per there directions but without any results.

  2. Hello Sam…I wonder if the new Istanbul Airport is as spotter friendly as Antaturk was?
    What do you think?

    1. Given the distance, it definitely won’t have the same “downtown” compact airport feel. We will wait and see what Turkish Airplane spotters came up with.
