Should you Opt for This Promotion?
As mentioned above, you can only either choose to earn Marriott Bonvoy points or British Airways Avios at a 50% bonus (3 Avios instead of 2 Avios per dollar spent). Generally speaking, if you are not a frequent visitor of Marriott Bonvoy properties, and you know that you wouldn’t reach Silver or above elite status to earn bonus Marriott Bonvoy points, I would recommend you to opt for this 50% British Airways Avios Bonus promotion.
Don’t forget that you can still buy Marriott Bonvoy points here at 0.875 US cent per point (30% Discount Promotion till 18th October). This is a good option for anyone who is short of Marriott Bonvoy points to redeem their desired hotel stay. Those with zero Marriott Bonvoy points should consider this promotion as well. In my previous post, I have shown how you can redeem Ritz Carlton Tokyo at 70k points ($612) instead of using cash to pay for a room which is priced at $1846 (inclusive of tax).
To decide whether you should either choose to earn British Airways Avios at 3 Avios per dollar spent or to continue to earn Marriott Bonvoy points as per normal, here are a few things to consider:
1)Redemption Rate for Marriott Bonvoy Hotel Stay
Marriott Bonvoy has introduced off-peak/standard/peak award pricing since 14th September. Under this new pricing system, the redemption rate may vary at any point in time, depending on the demand of the hotel. Minimum points to redeem a night is set at 5,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (off-peak).
If you are very close to having enough points to redeem a hotel stay, you might want to opt-out from this British Airways 50% bonus Avios promotion. Alternatively, you can still buy Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.875 US cent/point through this promotion:

2)Elite Status
Here are the number of nights to reach these Elite statuses and the bonus point rates tied to each status level:
Elite Status | Min Nights Required | Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Points |
Silver Elite | 10 nights in a calendar year | 10% |
Gold Elite | 25 nights (including redemption nights) in a calendar year | 25% |
Platinum Elite | 50 nights (including redemption nights) in a calendar year | 50% |
Titanium Elite | 75 nights (including redemption nights) in a calendar year | 75% |
Ambassador Elite | 100 eligible nights and spend $20,000 with us in one year | 75% |
If you are going to be or are currently an Elite member, you should not opt for this promotion. Why waste it when you can earn extra Marriott Bonvoy points?
Click here to purchase Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.875 US cent per point if you are currently short of points.
3) Receive Extra 5,000 Avios When You Transfer to British Airways at Every Block of 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points
At each block of 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, you will receive extra 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points when you transfer them to British Airways Avios. At the transfer rate of 3:1, you are technically transferring 20,000 Avios and receiving extra 5,000 Avios (total of 25,000 Avios).
If you are close to the 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points mark, you might just want to do some calculation to consider if you should credit your future hotel stay directly to British Airways Avios or stick to Marriott Bonvoy points.
