Today a Skyward Express Dash 8-100 crash-landed after the left main gear collapsed at Elwak airport, Kenya.
The 27.7-year-old aircraft, with registration 5Y-GRS performing a short passenger flight from Nairobi Wilson to Elwak (Kenya) with 37 passengers and 3 crew onboard, landed on Elwak’s gravel runway but suffered the collapse of the left main gear and went off the runway, ending up resting on its side. No injuries have been reported but the aircraft has sustained substantial damage.
Skyward Express released a statement about the accident:
The aircraft was originally delivered to Tyrolean Airways in 1994, then went to Olympic Aviation in 2003 for 1 year; since then it has been with DAC Aviation International and is currently on a wet lease to Skyward Express.
Skyward Express was founded in 2013 based in Nairobi Wilson Airport; they operate a fleet of seven aircraft, made up of a CRJ 100, three Fokker 27s and two DHC Dash 8-300s.
