Although some routes aren’t worth redeeming because the redemption rates are so high, there are certainly some sweet spots that you don’t want to miss. Additionally what makes the Alaska Mileage Plan more attractive is that it provides access to many Singapore Airlines First and Business Class seats, which you can not redeem with other frequent flyer programs.

Part I – Sweet Spots For Redemption
1) Within South East Asia (including Beijing and Shanghai)
For one way travel within Alaska‘s defined South East Asia (including Beijing and Shanghai) on Singapore Airlines, you will only need 35k Alaska miles for First Class or 25k miles for Business Class.
If you get a little creative, you can do such routing as shown in the table below. By adding two flight sectors when redeeming a “one way ticket”, you practically save 35k miles for one First Class flight and 25k miles for one Business Class flight.

Sam: How would you do this journey going 1st class and business class:
Geneva Switzerland to Hobart Tasmania to Dallas Texas to Geneva on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays no time constraints but having consideration for the difficulties of travelling for an able bodied woman aged 82 needing as much assistance as possible to make it a pleasurable experience. Journey to start in January 15th 2020 or thereabouts and ending 15th March or thereabouts. Price is also a big consideration as no one likes to be taken for a fool.
Given there is no direct flight, you may have to try the Middle Eastern carriers who serve directly from Geneva via Middle East to Australia. You can try google flight from Geneva to Melb/Syd for fares and buy a separate add on to save $$$.
It seems that overnight, they have closed up the loophole of including mainland china as part of southeast Asia.
Redemption for SIN to PVG or PEK on business class is now 60K…… sad
Hi Sam, I think SQ has closed the free stopover loophole on Alaska Miles redemptions. Tried searching for a BKK-SIN January, SIN-PEK May ticket but the system doesn’t allow it now. I’m hoping it’s a temporary issue, but seems like you can’t do a long stopover in Singapore now.
Beijing to Shanghai via Singapore or vice versa will not work as it departs and arrive at the same country? Correct me if I’m wrong. Cheers!
When you search Beijing to Shanghai, Hainan non-stop flight will come up.
How do I get a couple of saver seats in first class on the A380 to or from New York? I checked to the end of the schedule but showed nothing.
The best way to redeem SQ Suite is via Krisflyer. We should note that Krisflyer should have the most sq award space, followed by Alaska Mileage Plan. If both have no award space, we are out of luck. Suite typically dun open up so much space as compared to Economy and Business
