Yesterday Marriott’s new Bonvoy program launched. While there really aren’t any noteworthy changes to their program with the launch, Marriott has rebranded a new portfolio of credit cards with American Express and Chase.

Of the new cards being offered The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card has the biggest sign up offer and is probably the best card worth signing up for if you are eligible (see blow). The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express card is replacing The Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card.

Marriott Bonvoy Business Welcome Offer

The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card is offering a welcome bonus of 100,000 Marriott points. You must spend $5,000 on purchases in 3 months in order to qualify for the bonus. The offer is only valid for a limited time through April 24, 2019. As a reference, the 100,000 points is worth about $700-$900 based on a .07-.09 cent per point valuation although you can easily earn more with the many airline transfer partners that Marriott has.

Eligibility

It is super difficult to understand the terms for this card, as there are 2 factors here. The first factor is whether you can apply for the card and the second is if you are eligible for the bonus offer. Some members may be able to apply for the card and be approved but not receive a bonus, so read carefully into the rules.

American Express has created a welcome bonus eligibility pop-up that should let you know if you’re able to earn a given offer before you hit apply, although I haven’t tested it myself.

If any of the following are true, you won’t be able to earn the bonus on the Marriott Bonvoy Business Amex:

Currently have or have had any of the following Cards in the last 30 days

  • The Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card from Chase
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card
  • The Marriott Rewards Business Credit Card from Chase
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card

OR have acquired any of the following Cards from Chase in the last 90 days

  • The Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card
  • The Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Card

OR have received a welcome offer for any of the following Cards from Chase in the last 24 months

  • The Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card
  • The Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Card

Essentially, the card is unavailable if you have ever held a Chase cobranded Marriott card.

In Conclusion

A 100k offer doesn’t come around every day. The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card is solid card to pick up. Marriott has done a lot to push loyalty away, which makes signing up for one of these cards difficult. At the same time, Marriott works with the most Airline partners of any other program so there is still significant value to be had. If you can lock in the card with a $95 annual fee, the free award night should easily makes up for the fee. Make sure you apply by March 28, 2018 for the reduced annual fee.
