Jetstar Boeing 787 encounters double engine problems on approach

A Jetstar Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was approaching Osaka Airport last Friday when the pilots encountered issues with both engines.

Passengers and crew members on flight JQ15 that day reported one of two General Electric GEnx engines surged whilst on approach before resuming “normal” operating characteristics. It wasn’t long after that the other engine also surged.

It’s understood Jetstar engineers are working with General Electric and Boeing to determine the cause of this potentially serious issue, which bears similarities to a double engine shutdown on an All Nippon Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner upon landing.

Japan is weighing up whether to investigate the incident, however if they decide against it, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has stated they’ll launch their own.

Jetstar commented to media stating the pilots in command received visual and audio alerts from the 787 flight systems, specifically indicating engine parameter fluctuations.
