After last year's failed attempt to fly the Korean Air B747-8, I made another attempt to fly on the glorious Jumbo Jet and this time I succeeded! Now I've flown all 3 airlines flying the B747-8 (Lufthansa, Air China and Korean Air)
My routing is from Hong Kong to Incheon on flight KE614 then the next day flying to Singapore.
I used 45000 Korean Air SKYPASS miles to book the entire journey from Hong Kong via Incheon to Singapore in First Class. SPG Starwood is a transfer partner of Korean SKYPASS. You can purchase starpoints and transfer to Korean SKYPASS to fly!
Check-in was a breeze as usual on the red carpet. Korean Air use the Skyteam Lounge in Hong Kong which is a decent lounge with good food. At times the lounge is crowded with various Skyteam carriers departure at the same time.
There is a unique noodle bar set up and few showeroom as well.
Welcome onboard, there are just 6 seats in the nose area which is the First Class cabin. I have the whole cabin to myself on today's flight!
The First Class cabin is very private with a door you can slide to close with full privacy. Seat 3A and K have the largest separation apart but if you're traveling as a couple, I'd recommend seat 1A and K for the intimacy.
We took off from Runway 07R with the HKIA terminal and part of Kowloon came to the view from the window. You can see the old Kai Tak airport runway in the picture.
Here are the food from this "light" meal. I think it has more food than a 12 hours flight!
I have a duck croquette, parma ham, shrimp as starter.
Then a Lentil soup with full salad.
Main course I chose the Korean Bibimbap with Gochujang! The Korean Air cabin crew kindly mixed up the Bibimbap in front of me.
Ice cream and fruit to wash it all down! I can hardly move after this "light meal" 😉
After the meal service, I rested for 30 mins and we've started our descend into Incheon. Every element of the flight is performed faultlessly, I enjoyed every second flying in the very front and private position of the B747-8. I'd say due to the private position of the First Class in the nose section, I much prefer the B747 over the A380 as there's literally nothing in front of you in Row 1!
I've given my Air2 book (with Korean Air on the cover) to the leading stewardess, commanding her excellent and polite service.
